"Dead Zone" Expected to be Largest Ever

New Orleans, LA – Each summer an area of low oxygen develops in the Gulf of Mexico near the mouth of the Mississippi river. The area is commonly refered to as "the dead zone" because marine life cannot live there. This year's "dead zone" is expected to be bigger than ever. Zoe Sullivan has the story.

UNO Could Merge Into University of Louisiana System

New Orleans, La. – The proposal comes after Governor Jindal failed to merge UNO with Southern University of New Orleans, a move that was strongly opposed by SUNO students and administrators. The switch to the University of Louisiana system is seen as a good fit by some at UNO. Susan Krantz is dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

2 quarts finely chopped, peeled, pitted peaches (about 20 medium)
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped onion (about 1 medium)
2 cups brown sugar
1/8 cup mustard seed
2 1/2 cups cider vinegar, 5% acidity
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon salt
