Panama Canal Expansion Good for Port of New Orleans

New Orleans, LA – New Orleans is hoping to get a bigger share of maritime business when the Panama Canal expands in five years. But just how to get that bigger share is still not decided. Correspondent Eileen Fleming has more.

Port of New Orleans officials are anxious to get more container shipments once the Panama Canal doubles in size in 2014. So are city officials who want to attract more jobs. But the state hasn't decided the best way to accommodate the massive container vessels.

Documentary about NOLA small businesses

New Orleans, LA –

A documentary about New Orleans small businesses may have an international impact. Correspondent Eileen Fleming has more.

Seattle filmmaker Hanson Hosein produced Rising from Ruins to highlight the importance of small businesses in a damaged community. It was screened at the New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival, a forum he says was appropriate to show how small businesses are central to all sorts of rebuilding efforts.

Nagin News Conference

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is under fire on several matters that he confronted in a wide-ranging news conference outside City Hall.


It was set up to announce direct flights to Mexico and Honduras. But after only a few questions were posed on that subject, Mayor Nagin stood alone in front of the podium and answered questions about how he's been making the news lately.

About his former technology director, Greg Meffert, picking up the tab for a Hawaiian vacation for the Nagin family in 2004.
