BP Claims Expanding Beyond Gulf Coast

New Orleans, La. – Kenneth Feinberg says claims will now be considered that are submitted from areas not directly impacted by oil. He says the process is fluid and he's making changes as issues are brought to his attention.

EPA Promises Environmental Justice In Gulf Restoration

New Orleans, La. – E-P-A Administrator Lisa Jackson met in New Orleans with groups concerned about having a role in Gulf restoration. The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, for instance, says toxic waste coming from the BP spill should not be sent only to landfills in low-income areas. Jackson says those concerns will be addressed.

Claims Process Speeding Up

New Orleans, La. – Claims administrator Kenneth Feinberg says the flood of checks in recent days is the result of a streamlined process he ordered over the weekend.

Feinberg is in charge of the $20 billion dollar fund the White House negotiated with the oil company.

Since taking over the claim process from BP in August, the fund has paid out more than 42-thousand requests for economic damages.
