New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has called for a "community response" gathering today at 6 p.m., at the corner of Frenchmen Street and North Villere. It's a response to the multiple shooting Sunday afternoon during a Mother's Day second-line parade that injured at least 19 people.

"On Sunday afternoon — Mother's Day — our community was subjected to another senseless act of violence," the mayor said in a press release. "Please come out and show solidarity in protecting our culture and delivering a message to stop the shootings."

At least 19 people were wounded Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of Frenchmen Street, near the corner of Villere, after shooting broke out at a Mother's Day second-line at 1:47 p.m.

Of the 19 people injured, two were 10-year-old children. Both are in good condition, having suffered graze wounds, according to a statement released by the New Orleans Police Department.

New Orleans police have arrested a 15-year-old boy accused of accidentally shooting his 11-year-old brother in the leg.

Officer Frank Robertson says the 15-year-old faces a charge of negligent injury.

Man Shot Dead in Saint Thomas

A 55-year-old man was shot dead inside of a home in the 800-block of Jackson Avenue this morning, said the New Orleans Police Department in a press release.

The shooting happened at approximately 1:45 a.m., according to police. Officers responded to the Saint Thomas house after being called for an unknown problem, and found the man shot multiple times to the body inside the house.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, died on the scene.

The lead homicide detective on the case is Charles Hoffacker.
