The New Orleans Police Department will be conducting a motorist sobriety checkpoint "in the Orleans Parish area" tonight, according to a press release issued by NOPD spokeswoman Hilal Williams.

The NOPD Traffic Division will conduct the checkpoint from approximately 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Friday morning, the department said. Motorists are advised to have the proper documentation available if requested by the police, including proof of insurance and a driver's license.

The NOPD Traffic Division will begin the checkpoint at approximately 9 p.m., and conclude it at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday morning, said Officer Frank Robertson, III. The NOPD is required to issue notifications regarding sobriety checkpoints by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
