New Orleans police say a third person believed to be linked to the weekend shooting of a police officer at a sandwich shop has been taken into custody.

Police said 26-year-old James Wilson surrendered to Plaquemines Parish authorities on Monday and was transferred to New Orleans custody for questioning.

Two others who police say were suspects in the shooting were found in Gretna hours after the Sunday incident. One of them was dead. The other was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was booked with attempted first-degree murder.

Off-Duty New Orleans Police Officer Recovering From Gunshot Injuries

New Orleans police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the shooting of an officer early Sunday morning.

Police say 34-year-old Cornelius Barthelemy was found shot once in the torso in a Ford Expedition in Gretna about 8 a.m. yesterday, along with an unidentified dead man.

They say that while Barthelemy was being treated at a hospital, he told police he was involved in the shooting.

He says he was one of three men shown in surveillance video of the shooting of 44-year-old Officer Jonathan Smith around 1:40 a.m. Sunday at a New Orleans restaurant.

More Arrests In Lower 9th Ward Drive-by Shooting

A third man and a woman have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting in the Lower 9th Ward that killed two people and injured five.

Two boys and their mother were among the wounded.

New Orleans police say 23-year-old Joseph Nelson III is accused of being one of two gunmen who fired into a group on Aug. 10. Police say 25-year-old Ashley Shorts allegedly helped one of those two avoid detection.

Nelson was booked yesterday with two counts of first-degree murder and five of attempted first-degree murder.

The New Orleans Police Department has identified 20-year-old Justin Odom as a person of interest in last Sunday's shooting on Bourbon Street that injured 10 people.

Update: Brittany Thomas, a 21-year-old who had been in critical condition at Interim LSU Hospital since being struck Sunday, has died. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office says she was pronounced dead at 2:44 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2.

Mayor Landrieu Asks For Help From State Troopers And Regular Citizens

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to provide updates on last weekend's Bourbon Street shooting that left 10 people wounded.

Landrieu says he asked Governor Bobby Jindal to send 100 state troopers to New Orleans to patrol on a permanent basis, and the mayor called on citizens to work with police to help find those responsible for the shooting.

In New Orleans, Surveillance Cameras Help Catch Criminals

Police investigating Sunday morning's shooting on Bourbon Street could be assisted by camera footage in the area.

Ten people were wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning on Bourbon Street. One of the victims remains in critical condition, four others are hospitalized in stable condition.

A high-definition, robotic camera on the balcony of a popular karaoke bar called the Cat’s Meow caught it all on tape: First, total chaos, then bystanders rushing in to help the victims.

Bourbon Street Shooting Suspects Remain At Large

New Orleans police are still searching for two men who exchanged gunfire on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter.

Nine people were shot in the crossfire, including two who are in critical condition.

Images captured from a surveillance camera above a bar showed people running down the street in the chaos of the shooting at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas said six victims were hospitalized in stable condition. 

The other victim's condition wasn't available. Some of them were tourists. Their names weren't immediately released.

Bourbon Street Shooting Leaves Nine Injured

New Orleans police are investigating a shooting on Bourbon Street that injured nine people, two critically. Two men opened fire, injuring bystanders.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says three officers were patrolling the area when gunfire erupted early Sunday morning.

He says it started with two men arguing, then opening fire. He says eyewitnesses are being interviewed and video surveillance tapes are being reviewed. The shooting was only a few blocks from Jackson Square and among several popular bars on the crowded street.

NOPD Arrests 2 Teens In Double Shooting

New Orleans police have arrested two teenagers accused of opening fire on a 31-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter as they walked in a neighborhood with a man thought to be the target.

A third suspect remains at large.

Officer Frank Robertson, a police spokesman, says 19-year-old Cornell Williams and 18-year-old Shannon Cooks were arrested early Friday on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.
