Pelicans Star Anthony Davis Out With Broken Hand
Anthony Davis, the 6-foot-10 second-year power forward that has been a crucial piece of the New Orleans Pelicans’ high-flying offense this season, broke his hand in the first quarter of Sunday night’s game against the New York Knicks.
The injury has been described as a “non-displaced fracture” in his right hand, according to the team, who will be updating the media on his status later this week since the team is currently on a road trip.
“I was going up for a lob, got fouled and hit my hand on the rim,” Davis told Pelicans.com writer Jim Eichenhofer. “I hope that it’s a short-term thing (so that I can) get back on the floor,” he continued.
Davis has put up some serious numbers so far this season, averaging 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game (counting the Knicks game, when he left at 1:33 of the first quarter). He’s recorded a double-double in nine of the 16 games he’s played this year.
The Pelicans handed the Knicks their ninth straight loss in the 103-99 road victory. They play the Chicago Bulls Monday night.
