New Orleans Draping Tibetan Prayer Flags Ahead Of Dalai Lama's Visit
Preparations are beginning to mark next month’s visit of the Dalai Lama. New Orleans officials and religious leaders are revealing details this weekend.
New Orleans will be flying Tibetan Prayer Flags ahead of the Dalai Lama’s May visit. Archbishop Gregory Aymond, New Orleans First Lady Cheryl Landrieu and Ronald Marks, Tulane’s Dean of the School of Social Work, will review preparations on Saturday at the French Market.
Sets of prayer flags that string together blocks of five colors will be exchanged. More than 60 events are planned. One highlight is the creation of a colored-sand painting known as a mandala. Tibetan monks will carefully create the piece over four days at the Convention Center. On the fifth day, it will be dispersed into the Mississippi River.
Details on events are available here.
