BBC Assesses the Gulf Coast

New Orleans, LA – In the aftermath of the Deepwater oil rig explosion, the BBC's Robyn Bresnahan spent a month in Louisiana with fishing families to see how they were affected. She found many communities on the brink, with fishermen fearing they would never fish again. One year later, she has returned to meet with some of the same families.

Shell Beach, One Year After the Oil Blowout

New Orleans, Louisiana – It's been a year since BP's Macondo Well blew up off the coast of Louisiana, spewing oil into the Gulf of Mexico and altering the lives, economies, and cultures of communities all along the Gulf Coast. Over the course of the year, Eve Abrams has been visiting the folks in Shell Beach, Louisiana. She recently checked in to see how things are going in this fishing community leveled by Katrina, but perhaps hurt harder one year ago.

Gulf Coast Claims Problems Blamed On Huge Numbers Submitted

New Orleans, La. – Gulf Coast claims administrator Kenneth Feinberg says there are inconsistencies in how claims are paid. He says it sometimes takes too long to get a check, and the system isn't as transparent as it could be.

"I think they're all related to the volume of claims -- the sheer magnitude of the task, where it's going to be inevitable there's going to be inconsistency. You try and minimize it. But I acknowledge the problem."
